Join students from across the UK for an inspiring, challenging short course that will add value to the Preparation for HE section of your UCAS application form.

 

Course Topics

The course will cover the relationship between animals, plants and the environment by looking at theory as well as the application of ecological and evolutionary concepts using real-world case studies. Topics will include:

  • Principles of Ecology

  • Evolutionary Genetics

  • Bioinformatics

4 pm to 6:30 pm each day

Tutors

Different elements of the course will be delivered by experts from universities and relevant organisations.

Course objectives

  • To explore how evolutionary and ecological processes lead to variation and biodiversity
  • To demonstrate the importance of bioinformatics for collecting, analysing and interpreting biological data
  • To consider the impact of communicating research to effect change

Format

The course will be delivered online using a variety of methods, including lectures, student presentations, self-directed learning and class discussions. There will be some preparatory work.

This course is free for students on our Future Leaders Programme and for students from other schools who meet our disadvantage criteria. In light of Covid, our disadvantage criteria is wider to include students who have experienced disrupted education. We will not ask for proof on this occasion.
