Niamh O’Connor joined Villiers Park as a Progression Coach in October 2022. Niamh uses her background in Psychology to support our Future Leaders in Tyneside.

Recent findings show that the North East now has the lowest proportion of A* and A grades (22%), having dropped lower than before the COVID-19 pandemic (The Sutton Trust, 2023). Comparatively, this year London and the South East recorded the biggest rise in these grades since 2019. Knowing the impact of Covid-19 and our own first-hand experience, our team’s work in the North East is more important than ever.

What does your role entail and what is your biggest project at the moment?

Working alongside students to help them reach their goals and dreams whilst encouraging them to take incredible opportunities. Right now I'm focusing on creating a seamless transition for the students coming back to school after their summer holidays.

What did you do before coming to Villiers Park?

Completed a master's at York St John University in the Psychology of child and adolescent development. With a background in Psychology, I have a huge interest in behaviour and mental health, and I am passionate about providing all students with equal opportunities regardless of these influences.

What is the biggest challenge you are currently facing in your role?

It can be really disheartening to see a lack of confidence and low motivation for studying in some of my students.

What is your favourite part about your job?

Helping students believe in themselves and see their true full potential.

What is a book you always will always recommend?

The Child in You by Stefanie Stahl

If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go?

Switzerland because it looks absolutely beautiful!

Who are your 2 dream dinner party guests?

Margot Robbie and Leonardo Di Caprio

What would your perfect weekend look like?

A city break to somewhere cosy and wholesome, which includes a spa trip, going to watch a show at the theatre and a stunning Sunday lunch!
