Bridge to your Future

With the support of the UPP Foundation, Villiers Park is developing a transition course to target support for young people from under-represented backgrounds transitioning to Higher Education.

Based on our research findings, informed by the experiences of current undergraduate students and our own evidence-based practice, we have developed a coaching-based course to support students preparing for and attending their first year of university.

Structure of the course

The course will complement existing information and provision from universities; offer ongoing support and coaching during the first two terms at university; and be combined with peer mentoring from current undergraduate students. Our draft Theory of Change, which is a living document that will be refined during the project is overleaf. We have also included a project plan.

We aim to:

  • Equip students with the skills and knowledge they need to prepare for and manage the practical, emotional and logistical aspects of transition;
  • Increase confidence, social networks and feelings of belonging amongst students, especially before and during their first two terms at university;
  • Signpost support available at university, ensuring that students know how to access information and resources;
