What is the Future Leaders Programme?

The Future Leaders Programme empowers young people to develop personal, academic and employability skills and make informed choices about their future educational and career pathways. The programme combines one-to-one coaching, student-led projects, insight days and subject-specific courses. Drawing on the ‘Possible Selves’ theory, young people clarify their purpose and values, giving them agency to translate this into their possible futures.

Who do we support?

The Future Leaders Programme supports young people from under-represented backgrounds.

This includes

  • Students who are receiving free school meals or eligible for pupil premium
  • Students with special educational needs
  • Young carers and care experienced
  • Refugees and asylum seekers
  • Young people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds
  • Students from Roma, gypsy and traveller communities.

What can young people gain?

  • Young people strengthen their skills and capabilities

By developing a stronger sense of self and becoming more reliable and independent, having better organisational skills, adaptability and resilience.

  • Young people are better prepared for the future

By being more open-minded with a broader horizon of opportunities having a clearer view of what they want to do next and how to pursue their goals.

  • Young people reach higher academic attainment

By developing better academic skills including study, revision, learning and research.

  • Young people develop social networks

By building new connections and friendships with their peers. Future Leaders also give back to the community through mentoring and volunteering.

Success on our programmes

80% of Future Leaders told us that they felt more confident and clearer about their pathways at the end of Year 13, whether that's university, apprenticeships or employment.

Recent alumni have progressed into a range of higher education destinations including Bath, Bristol, Cambridge, Newcastle, Kent, LSE, Southampton, Northumbria and Warwick.

Several have also successfully secured apprenticeships and degree apprenticeship places at PwC, Mitchell Bearings, St James Place and Zurich.

"Without this programme I would be a lot less aspirational. The biggest thing is breaking that wall between what I thought I needed to be like to do these things vs the person I actually am - and realising that wall doesn’t exist. Realising I don’t have to change myself - that I’m good enough - was such a huge thing."

The most impactful experience I had was the opportunity to do work experience in the House of Commons Vote Office. That participation was useful in building up my interest in the public sector. I also found it exciting feeling like part of the team and seeing what happens in government.

"Villiers Park allowed me to help organise my life to ensure I was able to complete all of the things I needed to for my personal statement and applications alongside building a revision plan to ensure I completed my exams to the best of my ability."

Safeguarding

Villiers Park Educational Trust is committed to safeguarding all children and young people.

Safeguarding children and protecting those who come into contact with the charity is everyone’s responsibility. Effective safeguarding emphasises early intervention, protection from harm (both online and offline), and promotes the best outcomes for all children.

We believe that no child or young person should experience abuse or harm of any kind and give equal priority to keeping all children and young people safe regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

If you have questions about safeguarding or wish to report a safeguarding concern, an allegation or any non-recent abuse relating to the work of Villiers Park, please contact our Designated Safeguarding Lead.
